Memed, a Brazilian electronic-prescription platform with AI clinical support, announced a BRL 80 million round on 21 May 2026, co-led by DGF and BridgeOne with participation from DNA Capital, its controlling shareholder since 2021. It matters because this is growth capital entering a company that is already profitable and controlled by a financial sponsor, a structure that is unusual in the region.
The transaction
- Company. Memed, founded fifteen years ago by physicians Ricardo Moraes, Rafael Moraes and Marcel Ribeiro; led since June 2023 by Rodolfo Chung, formerly chief executive of Zé Delivery. The platform is free for doctors, patients and pharmacies and monetises through the pharmaceutical industry, via communication with physicians and retail media (Startups.com.br).
- Instrument and amount. Round of BRL 80 million. Valuation not disclosed.
- Investors. DGF and BridgeOne as co-leads; DNA Capital, which took control in 2021 and holds a BRL 300 million commitment.
- Use of proceeds. Mainly engineering, product and data science: artificial intelligence at the point of prescribing (drug interactions, dosage by patient profile, clinical alerts), integration with electronic health records and hospital systems, and structured clinical data capture over 24 months.
- Background. BRL 100 million round in October 2021; breakeven in June 2025.
Value drivers
Demonstrated profitability. The company reached breakeven in June 2025 after more than a decade of cash burn and now operates at a profit (Startups.com.br). In our reading, two new funds are entering because the model risk has already been cleared.
Revenue with a trajectory. Projected revenue of BRL 100 million in 2026. The monetisation base is the pharmaceutical industry, not the doctor or the patient, which makes prescriber volume the asset being sold.
Professional network. More than 150,000 registered healthcare professionals against around 500,000 doctors in Brazil, with a target of 300,000 by 2029. Only 15% of prescriptions in Brazil are digital, according to the company.
Sponsor with committed capital. DNA Capital controls the company and holds a BRL 300 million commitment. In our reading, the controlling shareholder joining the round and making room for new funds indicates the valuation was validated by third parties.
Artificial intelligence at the point of prescription. The company argues that value lies not in the interface but in the clinical context it gives the doctor when prescribing; that context is also what interests laboratories.
What the market is signalling
For a Mexican founder, Memed shows two things. First, that a company offering free clinical tools can reach profitability if the paying client is the pharmaceutical industry rather than the professional. Second, that a controlling financial sponsor can be the capital route when venture funds step back, provided the founder accepts majority governance and professionalised management.
For buyers and sponsors in Mexico, laboratories, pharmacy chains and private-equity funds, a profitable prescriber network with industry revenue is a distribution asset with a recent reference price. For a lender, a profitable company with contracted revenue from laboratories can support private credit, something a platform still burning cash cannot propose.
G2’s reading for a mandate
A round in a controlled company requires preparing two negotiations at once: price with the new funds, and the controlling shareholder’s rights against the incoming minorities. The data room must break out revenue by laboratory, client concentration and multi-year contracts, because an investment committee will value the company on the durability of pharmaceutical revenue rather than on the number of doctors. In Mexico, a mandate of this kind would be prepared as a competitive process with growth funds and, in parallel, with a strategic buyer from the pharmaceutical sector.
