Whatnot, a live-shopping marketplace headquartered in the United States with operations in the United Kingdom and Europe, announced on 7 August 2026 a USD 545 million Series G at a USD 20 billion post-money valuation, led by ICONIQ Growth, Lightspeed and Avra. It is a United States transaction that we include as a reference for the Mexican market: it sets the price growth capital pays today for a consumer marketplace with accelerating volume, and it is the range an investment committee will use for any social-commerce platform in Latin America.
The transaction
Amount: USD 545 million. Post-money valuation: USD 20 billion, up from USD 11.5 billion in the Series F of October 2025. Leads: ICONIQ Growth, Lightspeed and Avra. New investors: Kleiner Perkins, Robinhood, Standard Capital and Wellington; a16z, Bond, CapitalG, DST, Durable, Greycroft and Y Combinator return. The company describes it as “the largest raise in live shopping”. Stated use of proceeds: marketing, trust and safety, new categories and artificial-intelligence tools for sellers; in July 2026 it acquired Shaped. Instrument, preferences and any secondary component: not disclosed.
The prior sequence sets the pace. A USD 265 million Series E at roughly USD 5 billion in January 2025; a USD 225 million Series F at USD 11.5 billion in October 2025, led by DST and CapitalG with Sequoia and Alkeon, plus a secondary tender of up to USD 126 million (Crunchbase News). In nineteen months the valuation quadrupled.
Value drivers
Volume that doubles. 2025 GMV above USD 8 billion, more than double 2024; first-half 2026 GMV already exceeded all of 2025 (PYMNTS). In our reading, the acceleration, not just the level, is what justifies moving from USD 11.5 billion to USD 20 billion in ten months.
Demand acquisition. More than 20 million accounts created in 2025 and more than 650,000 new users per week, according to the company.
A professionalised supply side. The number of sellers with more than USD 1 million in cumulative sales more than doubled. In our reading, a marketplace is valued on the depth of its supply as much as on its demand; sellers who make a living on the platform reduce the risk of migration to competitors.
Rotating leads. Four rounds in nineteen months, each with a different lead. In our reading, that rotation points to a competitive process at every raise rather than an extension negotiated with the same investors.
No profitability metrics. The company did not disclose revenue, average take rate or operating result. The price rests on GMV and growth.
What the market is signalling
For Mexico, where live commerce over social networks is growing without a dominant marketplace, the transaction sets two parameters: international capital pays platform multiples when GMV doubles year on year, and it requires supply to grow in step with demand. A regional comparable will not reach these investors without equivalent data on seller retention and weekly user growth.
For strategic buyers, regional retailers and marketplaces, the signal is that the price of a social-commerce platform scales fast; in our reading, acquiring a local competitor before its Series B costs a fraction of what it will cost afterwards. For founders, the message is the sequence: rounds every six to ten months with a new lead in each, supported by quarterly metrics the company is willing to publish.
G2’s reading for a mandate
A raise for a consumer marketplace in 2026 is prepared with monthly GMV by cohort, seller concentration and user acquisition cost, because the lead investor will value the curve, not the point. In our reading, a competitive process in Mexico should put in front of the investment committee an explicit comparison with Whatnot’s trajectory from Series E to G, and a use of proceeds that separates demand acquisition from investment in seller tools.
