Ualá: USD 195 million at a USD 3,200 million valuation with Allianz X as lead investor

Allianz X led the round that takes Ualá from a USD 2,750 million to a USD 3,200 million valuation; the capital funds regional growth and embedded insurance, with a significant Mexican component according to its local CEO.

On 4 March 2026 Ualá announced a USD 195 million round led by Allianz X, with Stone Ridge, Tencent, Soros Fund Management, TABLE Holdings and D1 Capital, at a post-money valuation of USD 3,200 million. The round matters for who leads it, a strategic investor from the Allianz insurance group, and for its Mexican component: the local operation grew 51% in accounts and 80% in loan book during 2025.

The transaction

Ualá is a digital bank with banking licences in Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. The USD 195 million follows the 2024 Series E of USD 366 million, which had set the valuation at USD 2,750 million. The stated use is regional growth and an embedded insurance alliance with Allianz. The terms of the instrument, revenue and profitability were not disclosed.

The company reports more than 11 million clients, 7.5 million of them in Argentina, and more than 9.2 million loans granted. In Mexico, at the close of 2025, it had more than 2.7 million accounts (+51%), a loan book of MXN 1,032 million (+80%) and deposits above MXN 5,300 million. Its CEO in Mexico said the round “will have a large component of investment in Mexico”.

Value drivers

A continuity up-round. From USD 2,750 million to 3,200 million is a 16% increase by our calculation. In our reading, it is a price of continuity rather than a re-rating, in contrast with Plata, which went from USD 3,100 million in October 2025 to USD 5,000 million in April 2026.

A strategic lead with a commercial agreement. Allianz X leads and the round includes an embedded insurance alliance. In our reading, part of the value for Ualá is the distribution of a new product, not only the capital; and part of the value for Allianz is access to 11 million clients.

Three banking licences. Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. A balance sheet with deposit-taking in three jurisdictions is an asset that single-country challengers do not have.

Mexico as balance sheet leverage. The Mexican loan book of MXN 1,032 million against deposits above MXN 5,300 million equals, by our calculation, a loan-to-deposit ratio close to 20%. In our reading, the Mexican component of the round points to deploying that funding into credit.

What the market is signalling

Ualá’s valuation sits between those of its Mexican comparables in the period: Kapital Grupo Financiero (USD 1,300 million, September 2025), Clip (more than USD 2,500 million, June 2026) and Plata (USD 5,000 million, April 2026). Strategics are gaining weight in these rounds: Allianz X at Ualá, TelevisaUnivision among Plata’s leads in October 2025 and, according to press reports, Ant International and Mastercard at Clip.

For founders, the comparison between Ualá and Plata shows two different price signals: a 16% step-up with a strategic lead and a commercial alliance, versus 61% with a financial lead and a placement agent (Morgan Stanley in Plata’s case). In our reading, neither is better on its own; they depend on what the company needs after the round.

G2’s reading for a mandate

When a strategic leads, preparation must separate the investment terms from the commercial agreement and value each on its own; and the process must include financial sponsors in parallel, so that the strategic’s price is tested against an offer with no commercial agreement attached. Without that contrast, the founder does not know what part of the price is paying for distribution.
